Landmark District Logo Selection Process

Objective of HHNA Logo:
- To create a unique identifier for the neighborhood, and the Historic Highlands
Landmark District.
- To enable the Historic Highlands Landmark District's boundaries to be identified.
- To create a symbol which further bonds the HHNA community together.
- To reinforce the historical heritage and character of the neighborhood.
- The logo may be used by the HHNA for the Home Tour, advertisement, business
correspondence, fund raising or other events.
Submission process:
- All logo designs for consideration are to be submitted starting July 1, 2008 and
conclude midnight September 30th, 2008.
- All entries are welcomed. You do not have to reside in the neighborhood to submit a
logo design.
- We will only accept FREE logos. The HHNA must have exclusive ownership of the
final logo selected for use.
- Entries can be submitted in jpeg, tif, gif or pdf format. The logo graphics should be
accompanied with a brief text description of how the logo design ties into or
connects to the neighborhood. All entries should be submitted to the following email
address: logo@historichighlands.org prior to midnight September 30th, 2008.
- Please keep in mind, one of the intended uses of the logo is for signage to designate
the neighborhood boundaries. Less complex designs/artwork will typically make
better signage.
- When designing a logo, practices to encourage are to:
- avoid going overboard in attempting uniqueness
- use few colors, limited colors, spot colors
- avoid gradients (smooth color transitions) as a distinguishing feature
- be aware of design or trademark infringements
- not use a specific choice clip-art as a distinguishing feature
- not use the face of a (living) person
- not use photography or complex imagery as it reduces the instant recognition a
logo demands
Selection process:
All logos submitted for consideration will be posted to the HHNA website to enable all
entries to be viewed by neighbors throughout the Historic Highlands.
Each address within the HHNA will be given one vote (includes both Pasadena and
Altadena residents). Voting will be done through the website, beginning October 1st, 2008
and conclude October 14th, 2008 at midnight. The HHNA Board will review the results
and make the final decision prior to October 31st, 2008. Exact details on voting will be
provided at a later date.
