information with our neighbors and to enable others to learn

between New York Blvd. on the north, Washington Blvd. on
the south, Lake Ave. on the west, and Hill Ave. on the east.

The Historic Highlands Neighborhood consist of approximately 730 homes. The Historic
Highlands Neighborhood Association (HHNA) was formed in the early 1990's to facilitate
and encourage neighbors to collectively work together to build a stronger community
and provide a unified voice to City Hall, when needed. The HHNA consists of an all
volunteer Board and a number of subcommittees focused on events/issues effecting the
neighborhood. Today you will find the Historic Highlands a vibrant neighborhood, with
many community activities which reinforce and encourage a strong bond between
neighbors. Annual events include the Historic Highlands Home Tour, Fourth of July
Parade & BBQ, and the Labor Day Block Party. There are typically 2 neighborhood
General Meetings held in the Spring and Fall each year to update the neighborhood on
events and issues impacting the neighborhood area.
The reality is that our neighborhood is enriched by many events and involvements, e.g.
block parties, welcoming committees, crime watch, and even just introducing yourself.
Whenever we can grow and interact as neighbors, our neighborhood benefits. The
HHNA is continually looking to help create more opportunities for neighbors to come
together. If you would like to volunteer for any of our committees or have ideas to
further enrich our neighborhood, please contact any of the HHNA Board Members.
Fifteenth Annual Historic Highlands Home Tour:
Neighbors frequently ask how we select the houses for the tour. While not scientific, we
look for houses that meet certain criteria. We look for houses that have some
architectural significance. Either original features that have been preserved, or houses that
have been restored or remodeled to enhance the period architecture.
Another thing we look for are homes that are located within a close walking distance.
This allows us to highlight a portion of the neighborhood. In the past we have
highlighted Topeka, Catalina, and Elizabeth Streets. We also have highlighted areas, such
as the Dane Tract or the Lexington Heights Development.

The home tour is one of the most popular events sponsored by the neighborhood
association. It provides us with the opportunity to share what a wonderful neighborhood
we have with the whole community. We want all of our neighbors to know that anyone
is welcomed to join the committee. We always need new members who are willing to
lend a hand or who are interested in taking a specific position. If you are interested in
